Birthday Shenanigans (October 24, 2013)

October 27th marks my birthday, and with it only a few days away, I can already feel the excitement building up. This year, I'm super excited to have my best friend, Lauren Kiley, staying with me for 10 days to help properly celebrate!! Since October is also Lauren's birthday month, I thought I'd share some fun things about Lauren and I!

Lauren and I have been friends for over 18 years (I think we're on 20ish years now!!). We met because of our parents working together, and we just stayed great friends since. One of my very first memories of Lauren was that one year at my birthday party, we wer ehaving some sort of fun scavenger hunt thing that my Mom set up for my friends and I, and my birthday cake was chocolate. At the time, Lauren was adimentally against chocolate, for whatever reason. I remember that when she didn't have any of my birthday cake, I was SO sad that I didn't get a cake flavor she would like.

At some point later (it could have been weeks, months or even years later...), our parents were having a dinner party, and we were in my bedroom playing dress up. I had this HUGE suitcase full of clothes that I had found at thrift stores or my Mom had made...just bunches of silly costumes and party dresses. Anyway, we were young... seriously, I don't think we had hit our crucial teenaged years yet. Instead of playing house or family or doctor, or whatever games children play, we were playing courtesan. Only, we didn't know that was what it was called. We took turns being the leader of the world, seducing men into our powers. We had plans for world domination, with all the yucky boys being our servants and attending to our every need.

It wasn't until years later, when we were both in college that we each came out to one another as sex workers of various natures. It was one of those moments of "Hey Lauren, I have to tell you something..." and "Hey Sydney....we need to talk..." In the end, we each had our stories of what we were doing, and it brought us even closer together.

Lauren now lives literally on the other side of the country from me now, so seeing her is only something that happens once or twice a year, but I'm so super excited that this year we worked out spending my birthday together. It's fun to think back over the years of our friendship...birthday parties, crushes (on each other!), picking up girls together in straight bars, loosing our virginities (ahhh!) and all the other moments that we shared in some way or another.

Lauren is seriously one of the coolest chicks I know, and I'm so happy that now we both do the same sort of sex work that allows us to work together. I can't wait to see her tomorrow!!
